Install Docky In Ubuntu, An Elegant Looking Fully Featured Application Dock for Linux

Although you can "convert" the default Gnome panel into a dock easily by changing few settings such as size, transparency, length, etc... yet if you want a Dock that looks very much like the App dock in the Mac OS with lots of dedicated functions to enhance application related work, then Docky is one of the best alternatives for GNU Linux users.

Main Window...

Main features...

*. Drag-drop applications from menus or folders and create shortcuts.

*. Preview thumbnails of several applications and file types.

*. Add effects such as zooming icons when moving your mouse pointer over icons.

*. Automatically hide the dock when not used.

*. Advanced window managing options.

*. Add separators.

*. Few different click animations.

It is pretty easy to install Docky in Ubuntu (using a PPA channel). Open your Terminal window and issue the below command.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:docky-core/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install docky
