Install System Wide Multiband Equalizer PulseAudio in Ubuntu

If you haven't heard about System-Wide - Multiband Equalizer PulseAudio, it's another simple application (script actually) that gives you a very powerful, full featured Equalizer to control the PulseAudio sound server, developed by an Ubuntu user.

So what are benefits of using this?. Well, say that you've set up an Equalizer preset in MPlayer while playing multimedia files but the fact is that, that Equalizer is run on top of the MPlayer, not system-wide. Therefore, all that "Reggae" or "Rock" presets won't be applied other than when using MPlayer.

But with this little script you'll get a powerful Equalizer which runs on top of PulseAudio system thus any change that you do this Eq... is applied universally. So it doesn't matter what the application that you use (Totem, Xine, BMP, UMP, etc) the audio is "filtered" by this script after player/s send it to speakers so the presets are applied no matter what you're using. Cool right :).

Also you can define various presets... so whenever you play a Reggae or Rock song, you can change the Equalizer bands easily as well. So, enough talking.. let's have a look on how to install this app in Ubuntu 11.04/10.10. As usual, open your Terminal and issue the below command.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer
