How To Install Banshee 1.9.6 In Ubuntu Using PPA

Although after recent clashes and insults from Canonical, the Gnome music player Banshee is still going strong!. It has a simple GUI which is bit similar to the Rhythmbox and can play any audio format that Gstreamer currently supports! such as ...

Hmm, the Screenshot which I took from their site... it's certainly not taken while running Ubuntu :(

*. MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, FLAC, etc.

*. Also supports direct playback via favorite media players such as  Apple iPods, Creative Zen and various types of Android powered devices are just a few to name.

*. The developers have fully integrated the Last.fm support to Banshee, so it can fetch album art or pod casts, etc are easily accessible.

Some of the enhancement that you get with the 1.9.6 version includes...

*. They have renamed it from Banshee 1 to Banshee in preparation for the next release.

*. Now you can purchase mp3 directly from Amazon.ca (Canada).

and comes with few of the bug fixes as well.

Now remember the 1.9.6 is not the official version but still at beta stage (development release), so if you're willing to take the risk (well it's not like Banshee's going to blow your PC.. ;-) ) then this is how you can install it in Ubuntu using PPA.

Open your terminal and issue the below command...

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:banshee-team/banshee-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install banshee
