Install Indicator CPUfreq in Ubuntu (11.04/10.10) Using PPA

Although Gnome by default comes with an excellent CPU frequency controller of its own, but if you're already an Ubuntu Unity desktop fan and looking for a CPU frequency controller which is independent from the Gnome panel, then the Indicator-CPUfreq is an excellent solution.

You can still use it on the classical Gnome desktop too, and once installed, it'll let you control various CPU related functions such as frequency changing and switching between different power modes on the fly with ease as well.

So, if you run Ubuntu 11.04 or 10.10 and need to give it a try, then open your Terminal and issue the below command...

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:artfwo/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install indicator-cpufreq

Doesn't seem to work on 11.04!

@Anonymous,

Well it works in Unity on few PCs that I know of. But since it's PPA (personal package archive)... there could be few bugs :(. In that case, sorry dude.

Note: Remember, if your CPU does not support advanced power management features, then I don't think it'll have any "usable" menus... (disabled and unchangeable by default). Maybe that could be the case??

Hi! Could you please post a link to the wallpaper in the snapshot?

@Anonymous,

Hello there,

I'm sorry the snapshot is not actually mine. My OLD CPU does not support these features so I took it from somewher else, but don't even remember where either. Sorry about that :/...
