Qmmp, A Qt Based Music Player for GNU/Linux

We have Xmms or the BMP type audio players that tend to "behave" more likely the older "Winamp model" which are written in GTK+. But if you're a KDE fan and looking for a similar looking music player written in Qt, then Qmmp is the answer!.

And one of the best things about Qmmp is its speed!. Although not lightning fast, but still it is very fast when comparing with most other audio players. It's also an independent application, meaning that it has an engine of its own and does not rely on any "frame-work" for playing files either.

Main features...

*. Supports - MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Musepack, Wavepack, Chiptune formats (AY, GBS, GYM, HES, KSS, NSF, NSFE, SAP, SPC, VGM, VGZ, VTX), Audio CDs, WMA, AAC are just a few to mention.

*. Comes with few DSP effects.

*. Few visual effects such as a spectrum analyzer for instance.

*. Supports Xmms and Winamp 2x skins!.

*. Built in Equalizer, etc.

So if you use Ubuntu then you can easily install Qmmp using the apt-get software manager. To do that, open your Terminal and enter the below command.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stiff.ru/qmmp-releases
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install qmmp

  1. Nice find! Qmmp works great in Lucid Puppy 5.2.5 and is relatively easy to install from the PPM binary package manager. It has a familiar face for long time Winamp users.

It's not quite as versatile as Winamp - for example you can't just drop a file on the player itself and have it play - but it has most of the features I expect from a modern media player. The fact that it's light on the resources is a HUGE plus.
