How To Install the AbiWord Processor in Ubuntu Linux

If you expect to do things that you can do Openoffice or LibreOffice for instance, then you'll be a bit disappointed with AbiWord. But that's not to say that it's useless or less functional at all. It loads faster than OpenOffice and do come with almost all the features that users expect from a modern Word Processor, still... it is only a word-processor, not a complete office suite replace-r.

Clean and fast!...

Anyhow, if you don't need database or presentation creation applications and want something that is fast and light on memory then AbiWord could certainly be for you!. It reads certain amount of office extensions such as OpenOffice or Wordperfect and few other formats (including older MS Office file-types) and via the plug-in feature, you can "expand" its abilities by using these plugins created by various developers as well.

So, if you run Ubuntu then you can easily install it using both the graphical "software center" or the Terminal. In this post I'll show you how to install it using the Terminal since it only takes few seconds to copy and paste these commands.

So, as usual, open your Terminal and enter the below command and press enter...

sudo apt-get install abiword
