Install The Gorgeous Looking Icon Theme Faenza in Ubuntu!

By default Ubuntu does ship with some re-polished, 3D looking great looking icons but there are a lot of different totally gorgeous other icon-sets and themes that are made by GNU Linux enthusiastic/s all around the world. The Faenza icon theme is a complete set of icons that comes with two main variations such as...

The Gorgeous Faenza....

*. Monochrome icon set - For dark and light panels + menus.

*. Squared icon set - Starting with all the major GNU Linux apps that comes with Ubuntu + some other popular third-party app icons ... this suit includes an impressive amount of icons that helps you to completely "Faenza-nize" :) your Ubuntu Desktop.

You can install it using two main methods. As usual, you can visit the developer's page and download the icon set and follow the instructions or, can use the Terminal with a PPA channel for installing it which is the best/easiest in my opinion.

So, if you're interested in the PPA method, then open your Terminal and issue the below command.
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install faenza-icon-theme

*. This should work for Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 and 11.04 versions.

Install Equinox Evolution, A Beautiful Looking GTK+ Theme for Gnome

I did give you few Gnome Shell themes in a previous post, but those are for the new Gnome3. After using the "new" Gnome or you simply don't have a "thing" for it and decided to stick with the "old" Gnome2 desktop anyway, then the beautiful looking Equinox Evolution theme/s will impress you without a doubt.

Two of the four variations ...

Light version...

Dark version

Not only one actually, you get four! variations. Although they all use the Equinox theme engine, but they all have different color choices thus gives a complete different "taste" by each. The theme suit come with a metacity, GTK+ and a Chrome browser theme as well.

You can easily install all four Equinox themes in Ubuntu by using a PPA channel. To do that, we have to first install the Equinox theme engine first. Open your Terminal and issue the below command first.

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-equinox

Then install all the four themes at once with the below command.

sudo apt-get install equinox-theme

That's it!, enjoy.

Install Zuki, A Beautiful Looking GTK+ Theme for Gnome 2+

Apart from the apparent usability issues (in my opinion anyway) Gnome still is one of the most widely used "Free" desktops for GNU Linux. Now, Gnome team decided to move to a different "level" which as a result brought us the all new Gnome3. But still, if you'd like to stick with the old Gnome 2+ version and looking for a beautiful looking GTK/Metacity theme, then Zuki is a must have!.

Zuki with Gnome desktop

To be honest, the colors are "inspired" by MacOSX it seems, but the rest assured, it looks clean and elegant. There is a GTK theme engine called Murrine, and the Zuki is based on that engine. The theme support both Nautilus and the Nautilus elementary. If you want to use the simplified elementary version, then you'll have to install it first. But you can still you the theme with the default Nautilus as well.

Instructions...

*. First download the zipped package from here.

*. Now, extract the content to "/home/Your Username/.themes" or if you want the theme to be available for all the users, then extract the content to "/usr/share/themes" (you'll need administrator privileges for that).

Enjoy!.
