Have You Watched the "Free Software Song"?

I saw this song (in video) for the first time few years ago while watching the Revolution OS, a movie which basically exposes the birth of GNU/Linux. Although it was first sang by Mr. Stallman himself, but a lot of different "versions" can also be found such as a Techno version (for the European Gnu geeks :P) + a death metal version by Jono Becon (of course :P).

Anyway the if you want the original lyrics then here it is...
    Join us now and share the software;
    You'll be free, hackers, you'll be free.
    x2

    Hoarders may get piles of money,
    That is true, hackers, that is true.
    But they cannot help their neighbors;
    That ain't good, hackers,that ain't good.

    When we have enough free software
    At our call, hackers, at our call,
    We'll kick out those dirty licenses
    Ever more, hackers, ever more.

    Join us now and share the software;
    You'll be free, hackers, you'll be free.
    x2
It's a pretty cool song and as mentioned before, originally sang by Stallman himself. Here it is in his own words/voice I might add.

Here is the song as in the Revolution OS which is performed by the "The GNU/Stallmans" (Gnu/Stallmans!... wow, that sounded almost like - "Bill-Gatesmens :) )...

And here's the other version sang by the scary Severed Fifth :P (band of Jono Bacon)

Are we deceiving ourselves here?. In a way I feel like, as general PC users (you and me...) we're at the middle of the battle between Hackers and their "enemies", in a way they both seek truth in their own perceptual levels, but at the end it's just pride... fear, is the right word actually, I think :).

Install MiniTube in Ubuntu, The Desktop Integration of YouTube!

If you spend most of your time in YouTube :) and searching for many ways to "YouTube" more easily. For instance, rather than opening your Web browser and typing the address, etc... what if you could easily watch and search YouTube videos on your GNU Linux desktop!... wouldn't that be nice?

That's exactly what the MiniTube app does. It has a GUI of its own and within that you can search, download, add to play-list, thumbnails previews... and according to the developers MinuTube uses less GPU thus resulting better battery time for laptop users and interestingly it does not even use Flash player!.

It fully supports the 1080p HD videos as well. It is released under GNU GPL license and is available for Mac OSX and Windows as well. The developer is a KDE geek it seems :)... well KDE was born in Europe and they have a thing for that... so, it is written in Qt rather than GTK+ but integrates well with Gnome desktop
nonetheless.

The latest version is 1.4 and in Ubuntu you can easily install it using a PPA channel. First open your Terminal and issue the below command.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install minitube

That's it. For MS Windows and Mac OSX users, you can get the appropriate packages from here.

Ask Your Questions About Ubuntu Development via Daniel Holbach's Web Cast!

Daniel Holbach is an Ubuntu developer who lives in Berlin. Although this is not the first time, he has done several video casts (live of course) which are for answering various questions from all over the world about Ubuntu and its current development related news and other stuff ;-).

However, this time the timing is perfect actually, since both Ubuntu and Gnome seems to be in a bit of a clash thus giving birth to the Unity desktop (which was going on for some time actually). So if you have those kind of questions then this is your moment!.

I was reading one of his previous interviews and although you just can't judge a character based on a single interview, but he seemed like a pretty cool guy who likes Drum’n'Bass (he's actually a DJ!). Anyone who has a taste for music are usually easy to get to know and deal with, don't ya think ? ;-).

So if you have questions concerning Ubuntu and its future, etc then why not use this opportunity!. It will be head at 16 UTC and go to this his blog post for information about how to see and register yourself with the web cast.
